Uganda Contact
Stella Kiwanuka
Stella has a history of working with the disadvantaged communities in London and Uganda. Her passion for serving begun with the homeless on the streets of London where she served meals, provided clothing whilst offering spiritual encouragement and emotional support. After a number of years, Stella moved to Uganda where she is currently based.
In Uganda, Stella pursued a vision to help the unemployed with visible talent. Individual talent is a gift from God that can be used to earn an income. In the process of developing this principle and how it could be applied in our local community in Muyenga, Kampala God directed Stella to those of like mind – One World Aid (OWA). Stella joined hands with OWA who were already running with the same vision in West Africa. OWA was then birthed in Uganda and to date have accomplished a number of projects successfully.
UGANDA PROJECT
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT USING BODA BODA (MOTORBIKE PUBLIC TRANSPORT)
Five participants have successfully benefit from this project where OWA purchased boda bodas (motorbike public transport) for people to repay and use it to buy for others. The repayment plan was just for 24 months and created a permanent income stream.
Our Testimony
Nelson was successful in this business and paid off his motorbike. Shortly after he was involved in a terrible road accident that left him nursing numerous broken bones. Rather than allow fate to defeat him, he employed someone to operate the boda boda business and pay him all proceeds while he pays the rider a salary.
Abbas eventually made enough money to travel to Dubai for work. He is now employed as a motorbike courier with a dollar salary and has earnt enough money to build properties in Uganda for rent
Ronald continues to run his boda business but also runs a restaurant and bar
Steven continues to run his boda business whilst running a small scale farm business
Elijah continues to ride his bike under the OWA repayment plan
AGRICULTURE
Our Testimony
Annet Khanzi:Agricultural training in Kenya. Trained others in Uganda in organic farming and started a business of buying and selling handbags through the OWA program. Over time, the handbag sales provided enough revenue for Annet to start a supermarket in a busy area. The business has flourished and the available products continue grow based on client need
Ronald Atuhereza: OWA sponsored Ronald through his Diploma in Horticulture. The course was two years long and after, he started business as a Horticulturist in Muyenga. His business involves the sale of plants and flowers on the roadside as well as horticultural work in affluent homes in the area. He partnered with 8 other classmates on his course and as a team of 9 they have built up the business.
Joseph Mugoya: OWA assisted Joseph in the leasing of 2 acres of land, the purchase of maize seed and farming equipment. Joseph harvested the maize through three seasons and supplied small scale clients who sold to customers purchasing for home consumption. Thereafter, Joseph ventured into buying maize and beans that had already been harvested. He developed and sold to a client base that mainly consisted of schools. Once he built up enough capital from this line of sales, he started a supermarket in a busy area. The shop continues to do well.
